SIOUX FALLS – An initiative to develop a new visual identity that can represent the entire city of Sioux Falls is underway. The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, the Sioux Falls Development Foundation and the City of Sioux Falls are partnering in the project. The goal is to create a unified visual experience for businesses, visitors and residents and to further assist in communicating with external markets.
Sioux Falls has partnered with North Star Place Branding & Marketing to execute the project. North Star specializes in creating strong brands for communities across the country. They have worked with more than 250 communities in 44 states and are a leader in destination and place branding.
“The creation of a new brand identity will further help our efforts in promoting Sioux Falls as an exceptional place for business, visitors and residents,” said Mayor Paul TenHaken. “The collaborative process will yield insights about what sets Sioux Falls apart from other communities, and the new visual identity will allow us to better tell our story.”
There are two key opportunities for citizens to become involved. A community survey will be released this fall, asking residents to provide information about the area and help contribute in the shaping of the identity. Residents are also encouraged to attend an interactive Community Identity Workshop on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Representatives from North Star will facilitate an interactive discussion that will allow citizens to provide thoughts to help shape the definition of Sioux Falls’ identity through a variety of exploration stations.
The research and community inputs are the first step toward the creation of new visual identities for the four partner organizations – the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, Sioux Falls Development Foundations, Forward Sioux Falls and the City of Sioux Falls. Eventually, the visual will be available for adaptation by other agencies who have an interest in establishing Sioux Falls as a great place to live, work and visit.
