Leadership is a word that gets thrown around a lot. Perhaps that's because it is a word that shapes our lives. The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is strong because we are comprised of strong leaders who understand the value of collaboration, servant leadership and rolling up our sleeves to make things happen. We come together to make decisions in the best interest of the whole – that is powerful leadership.
...make decisions in the best interest of the whole – that is powerful leadership.
The search for the Chamber's next leader of leaders was no small undertaking and it is an honor to welcome Jeff Griffin as our President & CEO. I am confident that Jeff's leadership will help us continue our success and accelerate our growth. If you happen to see Jeff at an upcoming event, I encourage you to stop and introduce yourself. He wants to meet you!
One area in which the Chamber seeks to lead is in advocating for public policy that supports a strong business environment and quality of life in our region. Recently, the Chamber's Board of Directors decided to pursue the formation of a Political Action Committee (PAC). This decision followed a thorough vetting process, which was led by a committee of Chamber members. The PAC will be a separate entity from the Chamber. It is important to be clear that Chamber membership dues will not be used to fund the PAC. Members and staff are working on creating an operating model that is transparent, fundamentally sound and above all, is dedicated solely to improving our business climate and quality of life. The goal is to launch the PAC by mid-year. There are questions yet to be answered regarding the PAC, but one thing is certain – this will not be a "R" or "D" platform, it will be a "C" for Chamber platform. The Board believes that this is one more way we can support a healthy economy and strengthen our community. Watch for more details to come!
The Chamber works diligently in many areas that impact the success of our business community. We had another successful Sioux Empire Livestock Show in January – demonstrating support for the local ag industry and generating an estimated $3 million of economic impact. In March, we'll welcome thousands of people to the streets of downtown Sioux Falls for the 41st annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. Events and initiatives like these happen thanks to the commitment of many people…all leaders in their own right.
Please join me extending a warm welcome to Jeff Griffin and his family. We stand on the shoulders of giants and look forward to a bright future of working together!
