CVB's Schmidt is honored with two achievement awards

Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Executive Director Teri Schmidt is receiving recognition from peers as a leader in her community and industry.

Schmidt was presented with the Ben Black Elk Award during the 2020 Governor's Conference on Tourism in January. The award is given in recognition of lifetime achievement in tourism and honors an individual who makes outstanding contributions to the South Dakota's visitor industry. It was presented to Schmidt by Governor Kristi Noem and the South Dakota Department of Tourism Secretary Jim Hagen.

"Teri's accomplishments are truly incredible and inspiring," said Governor Noem. "She is one of a kind, and the Sioux Falls community and South Dakota are blessed to have her."

Schmidt has served as the executive director of the Sioux Falls CVB for 36 years. Since joining the organization, she has grown the staff from 2 people to 15 full and 20 part time employees and has built the annual budget from $133,000 to $3 million. Schmidt leads strategies, strengthens partnerships and has paved the way to make Sioux Falls the tourism destination it is today.

Sales and Marketing Executives, Inc. of Sioux Falls also plans to recognize Schmidt's accomplishments with a prestigious award. The organization will honor her with the 2020 South Dakota Sales and Marketing Executive of the Year™ award. It will be presented to Schmidt at the 2020 SME Excellence Awards banquet on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, 6:30 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

Tickets to the SME Excellence Awards are $55 each or free for SME members. The social begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit smesiouxfalls.org.
