The 44th Annual South Dakota ADDY Awards recognized South Dakota’s best in advertising. Junior Achievement USA recognized Junior Achievement of South Dakota for the organization’s Peak Performance Team Award. This annual award is given to Junior Achievement offices for outstanding performance in areas such as student growth, total revenue growth and an increase in the number of classes reached during the past fiscal year. The award was presented to Junior Achievement offices from 12 areas out of 135. This is the eighth year for South Dakota to receive the Peak Performance Team Award.
Jans Corporation completed one of 2009’s top construction projects for its work on the new Sioux Falls Seminary. Jans was among 15 companies to receive an Aon Build America Award, an annual ranking of the nation’s most significant construction projects given by the Associated General Contractors of America.
Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department has become one of only 90 agencies out of 9,000 in the country to hold national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). The process of accreditation is extensive and took several years to accomplish. After the initial application, the department completed a detailed self-assessment report. Then, an experienced team of park and recreation professionals visited Sioux Falls to further evaluate the city’s park system. Finally, a review was conducted by CAPRA and accreditation was formally conferred by the Commission in March.
Brigadier General (retired) Dean Mann, U.S. Army, presented Amy Meert Farr, Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, with the U.S. Army Freedom Team Salute award at the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee Meeting in February. This award is given to individuals for their outstanding contribution and support to the U.S. Armed Forces.

GOOD DEEDS
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) has developed a multi-year, four-phase plan for its recovery efforts in Haiti, with a goal of helping 50,000 families rebuild their lives after the January earthquake. Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls has made a contribution of $1,500 to these efforts.
The YMCA Middle School After School Program lost $24,000 when the City of Sioux Falls initiated spending cuts. Each month for 12 months, StarMark Cabinetry will give the YMCA Middle School After School Program $1,000 and challenges another company or individual to match their donation to replace the $24,000 in reduced funding by the City of Sioux Falls.
The Community Blood Bank is a non-profit cooperative effort between Sanford Hospital & USD Medical Center and Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center, formed to ensure a safe and adequate blood supply for the communities it serves. Community Blood Bank services 28 local hospitals within a 200-mile radius of Sioux Falls and uses 550 units of blood per week to meet the needs of hospital patients within southeastern South Dakota, northwestern Iowa and southwestern Minnesota. The top 10 contributors for the blood supply in 2009 were: Citibank (455 units); Wells Fargo Financial (435 units); VA Medical Center (338 units); PREMIER Bankcard (248 units) The Good Samaritan National Campus (238 units); South Dakota Air National Guards (237 units); Augustana College (223 units) LodgeNet Interactive Corp. (191 units); CIGNA Tel-Drug (186 units); and John Morrell & Co. (170 units).
The Sioux Falls Food Pantry received more than 200 pounds of food donations from a food drive held during the 2010 Sioux Empire Home Show (March 5-7). More than 9,000 attendees to the event helped fight hunger by donating items such as peanut butter and jelly, crackers, cereal and much more.
