Dean Karsky, Farmers Insurance Group/Karsky Agency, and Ryan Welsh, KSFY Television, were the Ambassador Team of the Year. Together they sold 42.5 new Chamber memberships during the 2008-2009 year. Mike Hauck, NAI Sioux Falls, and Mark McClung, Active Data Systems, Inc., placed second with 24.25 new members, followed by Lynda Billars, The Lynda B. Advantage/the Real Estate Company, and Jeff Ducheneaux, MetaBank, in third place with 16 new members.

Tammy Beintema, MSH Architects (Miller Sellers Heroux Architects, Inc.), took second place honors and Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc., took third place honors. The winner of the Diplomat Reinvestment Blitz was Doug Erickson, Key Staffing. RECOGNITION OF CHAMBER VOLUNTEERS
Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank, was the Diplomat of the Month for October. Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club, took second place honors and Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc., took third place honors. The winner of the Diplomat Reinvestment Blitz was David Johnson, DAKOTACARE. The October Diplomat Team of the Month includes: Captain Kathy Jurgens, Empire Mall/Empire East; Chris Conrad, First Bank & Trust; Jenifer Geerts, Best Business Products; Dawn Koenig, AMERI/Star Real Estate; and Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc.
Approximately 90 volunteers sold 96 new Chamber memberships during the two-week Fall Membership Drive, which concluded Nov. 13. The goal was 85. Thank you to all the Ambassadors and Associate Ambassadors. Team standings are as follows: 1st Place Ambassador Team: Dean Karsky, Farmers Insurance, Group/Karsky Agency; 2nd Place Ambassador Team: Lynda Billars, The Lynda B. Advantage/the real estate co.-Lynda Billars, and Jeff Ducheneaux ; and the 3rd Place Ambassador Team: Ritch Noble, McKinneyOlson Insurance, and Carol Jandera. Several associates helped with the drive. NEW FACES & PROMOTIONS
Ryan Welsh was recently named Director of Sales & Marketing for the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau. Welsh is a South Dakota State University graduate and comes to the CVB from KSFY Television where he worked his way up from Account Executive to General Sales Manager. He was also awarded Ambassador Committee Team of the year for the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce in 2009.
Bethany Tschappat was promoted to Office and Research Manager for McKerin Software, Inc. Tschappat has been with McKerin Software for almost two years. She has a bachelor’s degree in human services management from the University of Phoenix and has more than five years experience in management and more than 10 years experience in client services. Chad Tschappat is the new Programmer/Analyst for McKerin Software, Inc. He has a bachelor’s degree in IT Information Systems Security and a master’s degree in Information Systems, both from the University of Phoenix.

HONORS & AWARDS
Each year, the Chamber’s Military and Veterans Affairs Committee and the Sioux Falls veterans organizations co-sponsor the Veterans Day program to honor veterans. Four area veterans are presented with a Veterans Outstanding Achievement Award to publicly recognize them for their commitment to their community, country and organizations. This year’s recipients were: Clarence Kooistra, Disabled American Veterans; Gilmore Koepsell, American Legion Post #15; Mike Rothenbuehler, North Central Chapter Paralyzed Veterans of America; and Lez Tiezen, 40 et 8 Voitures #129.
The Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE) received the South Dakota Home Builders Association (SDHBA) 2009 Project of the Year Award for the construction of the Ronald McDonald House® in Sioux Falls. Since the construction of the new 18-bedroom home at 17th Street and Lake Avenue began in July of 2008, hundreds of HBASE members have donated cash, materials and long hours of labor to the Association’s largest community service project.
Insight Marketing Design received 11 2009 MarCom Awards, including four Platinum Awards, which are the highest honor, four Gold Awards and three Honorable Mentions. The MarCom Awards is an international creative competition that recognizes outstanding achievement by marketing and communications professionals.
The South Dakota Safety Council awarded a Governor’s Safety Award to StarMark Cabinetry for excellence in workplace safety and health.
Chad Van Buskirk, Van Buskirk Companies, recently received his Certified Green Professional Designation with the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) National Green Building Program.
Julie Clark, Education Director of the Sioux Empire Housing Partnership, received the 2009 Friend of Housing award from the South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA). The award is presented to an individual to recognize personal commitment, dedication and achievement toward affordable housing in South Dakota.
Mark Graham, president and CEO of Bell Inc., received the 2009 Robert T. Gair Award for outstanding lifetime contributions to industry and community. Graham also announced plans to retire from his CEO role in April 2010.
The following Chamber members received the 2009 Workplace Excellence Awards from the Sioux Empire Society for Human Resource Management (SESHRM) Chapter: Globe University (small category), Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield (medium category), and Midcontinent Communications (large category). This annual award is to acknowledge those companies that have made significant strides in employee practices to establish a highly desirable work environment and to distinguish them for their leadership, culture and best practices.
U.S. Sen. John Thune received the Charles Dick Medal of Merit by the National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS). The award recognizes public servants at the state and federal level who demonstrate extraordinary support for the National Guard. The medal is named in honor of Maj. Gen. Charles Dick, President of NGAUS from 1902-09.
