Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank, was the diplomat of the month for October. Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club, took second place honors and Sonja Borchardt, Qwest, took third place honors for October.
The October Diplomat Team of the Month includes: Captain Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club; Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank; Mike Teslow, ST Financial Services; Wade Thomas, Dakota Lettering; and Marshall Selberg, HJN Team Real Estate.

New Faces/Promotions

Jessica Hopkins is the evening news anchor at KDLT Television. Hopkins is a graduate of South Dakota State University and has worked as an award-winning anchor/reporter for another Sioux Falls station. Her most recent position was the main anchor at KEYC, the CBS affiliate in Mankato, Minn. She will co-anchor KDLT News at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. weekdays. Hopkins has earned several awards as a journalist.

Eide Bailly LLP recently hired Lisa Herr as Office Administrator. The following staff were promoted: Ben Ellingson and Tom Madison to Senior Manager; and Stacy Erdman, Andy Kaiser, Lisa Lentz, Nick Kortan and Paul Van Sloten to Manager.

Ulteig Engineers' Sioux Falls office added two new employees. Josh Sterling joined the land services division as a Survey Technician. Sterling is a graduate of Southeast Technical Institute with an associate degree in Civil Engineering. Krystal Hermanson joined the administration team as an Administrative Assistant and Receptionist. She graduated from Rasmussen College with a degree in business management.

Kendra McGuire joined Beck & Hofer Construction as Controller. McGuire has a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of South Dakota and a master's degree from the University of Sioux Falls. Stuart Gilbertson of Beck and Hofer Construction, Inc. was promoted to Steel Superintendent. Gilbertson has more than 20 years experience in steel building erection.

Rob TeKolste was appointed to Executive Vice President of Operations for Sammons Financial Group (SFG). He will also serve as the primary on-site leader for SFG's largest office in Sioux Falls. Midland National and North American are members of the Sammons Financial Group, which is a group of financial companies that share resources and services.

Honors in Industry

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls and Habitat's ReStore named Tom Wierenga (Construction) and Bill Mashek (ReStore) the winners of its 2008 Volunteer of the Year awards. Wierenga has been instrumental in getting 11 of the 12 Citi-sponsored houses finished. He has volunteered more than 700 hours as a volunteer and as a Site Supervisor. Wierenga is also a member of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls' Board of Directors. Mashek began volunteering at Habitat for Humanity ReStore in 2002. He has given more than 2,000 hours during his years of volunteerism at Habitat. He helps at the ReStore and also works at Habitat construction sites every Wednesday and Friday as a "Master's Builder."

Kathy Nelson, Sioux Falls Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, was recently recognized as the South Dakota District 10 Nurse of the Year. She was honored for her dedication to the profession of nursing.

Awards

Regenerations Technology, Inc. awarded the South Dakota Lions Eye Bank with a $10,000 grant to enhance community programs. Since 2006 the South Dakota Lions Eye Bank has partnered with area hospitals to honor local donor families and transplant recipients. With the $10,000 grant, community programs will be greatly enhanced offering greater recognition to participating donor families and transplant recipients.

Bell, Inc. was awarded the "Green Supply Chain Award" by Supply & Demand Chain Executive. The award recognized 21 companies of all sizes that are taking steps to realize green goals through their supply chain management processes.
