Tax changes take effect Jan. 1
Beginning Jan. 1, 2009, consumers making purchases in Sioux Falls will pay slightly more in municipal taxes when the city’s general sales and use tax rate increases from 1.92 percent to 2 percent.
In addition to the municipal general sales and use tax, Sioux Falls also assesses a 1 percent gross receipts tax on lodging, eating establishments, alcohol, and ticket sales and admissions to places of amusement or cultural and athletic events.
Other cities implementing new municipal taxes or making changes to their existing municipal taxes Jan. 1 include Crooks, Doland, Grenville, Herreid, Hudson, Orient and Winner.Â
The South Dakota Department of Revenue and Regulation has Municipal Tax Information Bulletins available listing all municipal sales and use tax rates statewide as well as information on tribal sales, use and excise taxes. For more information, visit www.state.sd.us/drr.
