Winter Wonderland lights up Falls Park

Proud Member Decal

Mayor Dave Munson officially turned the switch to light up Falls Park Nov. 22 for the 6th Annual Winter Wonderland at Falls Park, which attracted thousands of people to the city's namesake. Winter Wonderland is a dazzling display of lights and holiday festivities for all ages. Falls Park will continue to light up nightly though Jan. 4, 2009.

For the kick-off, Falls Park was decorated in thousands of beautiful holiday lights, garland and ice sculptures. Adults and children enjoyed free cookies, hot chocolate and cider, horse-drawn wagon rides, holiday music, a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and a look at Santa's two live reindeer and camel. This year's event features 189,100 miniature lights, 212 decorated trees, and 208 decorated light poles.

The Sioux Falls CVB would like to thank Sanford Heath and The Empire Mall/Empire East for co-sponsoring the event. Special thanks also goes to businesses assisting the CVB: Sioux Falls Convention Center/Global Spectrum, Sioux Falls Arena/SMG, Keller Rental, Holiday Inn City Centre, Roger Titze, Ovations, Sioux Falls Public Transit, Sioux Falls Two-Way Radio, Backyard Broadcasting, Results Radio-Cumulus Media Sioux Falls and the Sioux Falls Police Department. And hats off to the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department for the many hours of hard work in hanging the lights and decorations throughout the park.
