The orange cones on the streets and growing residential and commercial structures all across the city are evidence that we are a community on the move. Sioux Falls is on the verge of many amazing opportunities — we are a community striving to move from good to great.

The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is also part of the process in building Sioux Falls. Since 1958, our Community Appeals Committee has vetted capital campaigns. The purpose of the committee is to help organizations plan their fundraising for maximum benefits. The results are bricks and mortar that continue to benefit the community long after their construction.

Two recent campaigns epitomize the return on investment our community receives through community appeals projects. The Ice Sports Association campaign, which will break ground next year on the three-sheet Scheel’s Iceplex, ran from November last year until March of this year. The Community Indoor Tennis Center campaign runs April through July; this center will house seven indoor tennis courts. Both facilities will be located at the Sanford Sports Complex, a growing development in the northwest part of Sioux Falls. Both facilities will help bring new activities and events to the community that we didn’t have the ability to host before. They also allow people who live in the area more opportunities to participate in healthy activities.

The new facilities at the Sanford Sports Complex are just some of the great building projects that are providing jobs, improving neighborhoods and adding to our quality of life. This issue of Chamber News highlights just a few of the benefits from the construction activity taking place across the city.

But moving from good to great is more than just making sure we have solid infrastructure and shiny new buildings. Becoming a great community is an opportunity to dream big about what we might be capable of, the events we can host and economic development opportunities we can pursue — because we have a strong infrastructure and top-notch facilities that are second-to-none. It takes vision to look down the road and see the payoffs from we’re building today. Today we’re reaping the success of those who came before us.

There is a growing momentum in Sioux Falls to be proud of our community and to present a great first impression to our visitors and perhaps future residents. Thanks to partnerships between the public and private sectors, we have a great city to sell.

It’s an exciting time to be in Sioux Falls and we will have an even more exciting future once these facilities are completed. Congratulations to the all of the campaign volunteers and public and private leaders who saw the need for the projects. Congratulations to everyone who has supported these campaigns. And congratulations to all of us in the Sioux Falls area, who will truly benefit from the investment.
