Mark McClung, Active Data Systems, Inc., and Mike Hauck, NAI Sioux Falls, were the Ambassador Team of the Month for March.
Wade Thomas, Dakota Lettering, was the Diplomat of the Month for March. Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club, took second place honors and Tammy Beintema, Miller Sellers Heroux Architects, Inc., took third place honors for March. The March Diplomat Team of the Month includes: Captain Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club; Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank; Mike Teslow, Swenson Investments & Commodities and Uncle Ed’s Specialty Meats; Wade Thomas, Dakota Lettering and Marshall Selberg, Key Real Estate.
John Weber, Northwestern Mutual Financial Network (Rookie of the Year); Ron Bruns, retired (Old Timer Award); and David O’Hara, U.S. Bank (Volunteer of the Year), were recognized at the Agri-Business Division Annual Meeting for their efforts at the 2009 Sioux Empire Farm Show.

MEMBERS IN THE NEWS
The 8th Annual “Gourmet Guys� raised nearly $50,000 to benefit the Center for Active Generation’s programs and services. Aaron Lindman, Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau, was a “Gourmet Guy� for the first time and prepared Chicken Tortellini, which took second place in the “Main Dish� category. Thane Barnier, Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, teamed up with Lindman to help serve the hungry crowd as they made their way to each of the 40 food stations. Other Chamber members who were deemed crowd favorites included: Jim Mathis, Adwerks; Pat Gustaf, Gustaf’s Greenery; Brian Bonde, Children’s Care Hospital & School; Al Wieczorek, Malloy Electric and Supply; Dan Johnson, Dow Rummel Village; Nic Faini, Faini Designs Jewelry Studio; Sheriff Mike Milstead, Minnehaha County; and Youth Chef Sam Olson.

Honors in industry
Insight Marketing Design Partner Candy Van Dam received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the South Dakota State University Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at the Spring Journalism Award Banquet. Van Dam is a 1977 graduate of the school. She and her partner launched Insight Marketing Design in 2003; the company has grown to a staff of 12 with local, regional and national clients.
KELO-TV’s website received the 2009 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award by the Radio-Television News Director Association. KELO-TV competed in the small market television category for the region that includes Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Regional winners automatically become eligible for the national awards competition, which will be judged in early June.
Craig Doeden, Century Business Products, was named “Best Kyocera Technician in America� in March 2009. Doeden competed against more than 1,000 other technicians in three levels of testing. He achieved first place in local, regional and national testing. Century Business Products Four of the five technicians who competed in the 14-state regional competition were Century Business Products employees: Todd Gordon, Jerid Brown, Steve Cogdill and Doeden.
Several staff at Miller Sellers Heroux Architects recently achieved LEED AP certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Professional Accreditation). This certification distinguishes individuals who have demonstrated detailed knowledge of sustainable design practices and who, by their knowledge can lead a building project through LEED certification. Randy Gunnink, a Partner and Project Manager, works primarily on military, biotech and school facilities. He joined the company in 2001 and has a bachelor’s of architecture degree and also has a bachelor’s degree in environmental design. Project Manager Steve Thompson joined the firm in 2001 and has more than 22 years experience in architectural project management. His primary project focus is educational, custom residential and government. Jamison Mutschelknaus joined the firm in 2003 and focuses on medical, sports and residential design projects.
Insight Marketing Design received five 2009 Telly Awards, including two prestigious Silver Tellys, the highest honor. The Telly Awards is the premier award honoring local, regional and cable TV commercials and program, the finest video and film products, and online film and video.
Tamara M. Jorgensen, City of Sioux Falls Assistant City Clerk, and Denise D. Tucker, City of Sioux Falls Assistant City Clerk, each received the Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC): December 2008, The CMC designation program is designed to enhance the job performance of the Clerk in small and large municipalities. To earn the CMC designation, a Municipal Clerk must attend extensive education programs.

NEW FACES/PROMOTIONS
Bartlett & West recently added several new staff members to its Sioux Falls office. Richard Hunt is a Senior Designer in Bartlett & West’s Rural & Regional Water Division and has been with the firm since 1984. In December 2008, he transferred from Bismarck to the Sioux Falls office. Kristin McMartin is a Senior Administrative Technician. Adam Norman re-joins the company as a Project Engineer in the Sioux Falls office. He is focusing on water treatment and distribution. Adam received his bachelor’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from South Dakota State University in 2004. He also has his EIT and LSIT in South Dakota, and is currently working on his master’s degree.

GOOD DEEDS
Timand Nancy Nicolai were recognized as “Heroes in Hard Times� by People Magazine. The Nicolais own the Arena Motel and have offered free shelter to more than 100 homeless people.
