12th Annual Festival of Cultures June 20
Travel the world without leaving Sioux Falls by visiting the 12th Annual Festival of Cultures, June 20 in Falls Park. Last year, more than 30,000 people experienced a variety of sights, sounds and tastes from around the globe.
The Festival of Cultures is an annual event in which all Sioux Empire cultures come together to learn, share and celebrate by enjoying the sights, sounds and tastes of cultures from all over the world. This event has become a symbol of the fast-growing diversity in the greater community.
The celebration officially begins with nearly 200 children carrying flags from countries and nations around the world in the Parade of Flags. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. and follows the route of the Phillips to the Falls Boulevard before winding its way into Falls Park. In addition to the cultural flags, the parade will be open to outside participants. Contact the Multi-Cultural Center for information about participating in the parade.
Entertainment ranges from traditional to ancient music performed by groups such as Brasamba, a Brazilian Samba group. In addition, members of the local ethnic communities will also perform throughout the day. Shows on the main stage run from noon to 7 p.m.; and on the children's stage, entertainment and activities run from noon-6 p.m.
Food from African, Asian, Hispanic, American, Middle Eastern and American Indian traditions can also be found at the festival. More than 50 cultural sales and display booths will also be present throughout the park.
The Festival of Cultures runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission and parking are free. The
