The city of Sioux Falls and Sioux Falls School District are growing in diversity, and it’s happening faster than ever before. A new Sioux Falls School District report shows that one in four students in our district are ethnically diverse—the largest number ever—and that number is only expected to go up.
Students from all over the world end up in Sioux Falls classrooms, speaking around 50 different languages. Minority groups now make up 26 percent of the 21,000 students district-wide.
Embrace our changing community This issue of Chamber News looks at Sioux Falls’ changing diversity and some of the organizations that are working to help people become acclimated to the community. The statistics clearly show that Sioux Falls is not the same homogenous community it was 50 years ago—and that’s a good thing.
We are fortunate to have families from across the country—and from across the globe—who are choosing Sioux Falls as their home to raise their families, complete their educations, or start their businesses. Each person adds to the diversity of our community, our area school districts as well as our business community. The thing they all have in common? They see the Sioux Falls area as a place of opportunity.
