Fall on a college campus brings with it a sense of optimism, with fresh faces, new dreams and a shared belief that anything is possible.

With the new Chamber year beginning Oct. 1, I’ve learned that Chamber volunteers embody that same spirit of confidence about Sioux Falls. I’m honored to be a part of our community’s top advocate for business.

Sioux Falls is a community where we get things done. The support for our non-profit organizations, the school-business partnerships in our community, and the recent progress we’ve made in expanding our facilities all speak to how we lift one another up. The Chamber is the major facilitator in our community to make these things happen. We celebrate new businesses and our expanding businesses by holding ribbon cuttings and groundbreakings. We continue to have new businesses join our organization because they believe our voice is stronger together than going it alone. And we use our voice to educate our members about issues that affect business. Whether it’s reviewing statewide ballot issues, explaining new City ordinances, or holding workshops to shed some light on healthcare reform, the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is a resource for our members.

The theme of our 106th Annual Meeting, “Celebrating Community,” resonates with me because I think it’s something the Chamber does very well. It is appropriate that we take an evening to rejoice in all that we’ve accomplished together, to recognize many for their contributions and to continue to move our community forward. I invite you to join us at the Annual Meeting and to spend an evening with your fellow Chamber members in celebration of our community.

In order to make progress, we don’t always have to agree. However, we do need to continue our spirit of collaboration. We need to remember the things we have in common and how when we work together, we can do so much more. I hope at the end of my year as Chair, I have honored the service of those who came before me. I hope that I did my part to advance the ball and continue the positive momentum already in place. With your help, I’m certain we’ll succeed.
