|
The 57th Annual Sioux Empire Farm Show will be held Jan. 26-30, 2010 on the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in Sioux Falls. Livestock shows and sales and commercial exhibits will be held in the Expo Building. Admission is free. The Agri-Business Division of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event. Larry Healy, Campbell Supply Co., is the 2010 Sioux Empire Farm Show Chair. A strong showing of livestock will highlight the Sioux Empire Farm Show portion of the “Sioux Falls Salute to Agriculture.” The show starts Tuesday with a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. in the Expo Building. It concludes Saturday evening with the draft horse and pony pull. A complete schedule is available at www.SiouxEmpireFarmShow.org. The top market livestock shown throughout the week are recognized and rewarded at the Mayor’s Round-Up & Sale of Champions begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29 at the Best Western Ramkota Exhibit Hall. The Sale of Champions allows the buyers and sellers to see the “best of the best” at an exciting auction. Area businesses and individuals will pay premiums to producers by bidding on the top five market steers, top 10 market swine and top five market lambs and new to the sale this year will be the top two market goats. Sioux Falls Mayor Dave Munson will lend a hand in auctioning the Grand Champion Market Steer. Sale of Champions Auctioneers and emcees Jim Woster, Joel Westra and Pete Atkins will take the reins for the rest of the sale. Tickets for the event are $35 per person, which includes a steak dinner. Contact Sara Weber at (605) 373-2006 to purchase tickets. The best purebred cattle are also recognized Friday evening through the awarding of the Supreme Row purse. Just prior to the Sale of Champions, the $12,000 Supreme Row Cash Awards will be presented to the consignors of the Grand Champion Bull and Female over all breeds along with the buyers of the animals. The sponsors of the $12,000 purse, the Tri-State Neighbor as the gold sponsor, Wells Fargo Bank South Dakota, N.A. as the silver sponsor and Campbell Supply as the bronze sponsor will present the awards. Seven breeds are competing for this purse. Commercial exhibits will be on display in the north end of the Expo Building and the Sioux Falls Convention Center and the Sioux Falls Arena from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily Wednesday through Friday. Midwest Shows, based out of Austin, Minn., has been selling commercial exhibit spaces for the shows since 1998.
