The early entry deadline for market livestock showing at the 59th Annual Sioux Empire Farm Show is Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. A complete show schedule, rules and entry forms can be found at www.siouxempirefarmshow.org.
Market livestock shows and sales include: feeder heifer, market Steer, feeder steer, breeding heifer, market swine, market goats, and market lambs. Following is the schedule for the shows:
Market barrow and gilts will show Wednesday, Jan. 25 beginning at 8 am. Brad Mabry of Nebraska will serve as the judge of the Market Swine Show.
Feeder heifers will show Thursday evening, Jan. 26 beginning at 6 p.m. The judge for that show will be announced at a later date.
The Market Lamb show will take place on Thursday, Jan. 26 beginning at 6 pm. Todd Nordman, of Chancellor, S.D., will place the market lambs.
Market Steers will show on Friday, Jan. 27 at 10:30 a.m., followed by the feeder steer show at 11:30 a.m. Jim Bloomberg from Berwick, Ill., is the judge of the market and feeder steers. Bloomberg will also judge the breeding heifer, show which will take place Saturday, Jan. 28 beginning at 12:30 p.m.
The market goat show will be held Friday, Jan. 27 beginning at noon. Brad Weir of Iowa will judge the market does and wethers.
All livestock events take place at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds in the Expo Building. The top five market steers, top 10 market swine, top five market lambs and the top two market goats will sell at the Mayor’s Round-up and Sale of Champions, which will be held Friday, Jan. 27 at the Best Western Ramkota Exhibit Hall beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public and tickets are $35 per person, which includes dinner.
Commercial Exhibits will be on display Wednesday, Jan. 25-Friday, Jan. 27 at the Expo Building at the Fairgrounds, the Sioux Falls Convention Center and the Sioux Falls Arena. Admission is free.
