Volunteer for the community Sept. 26
The HELP!Line Center invites all area residents to participate in the Volunteer Sioux Falls project, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 26.
In 2008, more than 450 volunteers took part in Volunteer Sioux Falls. This year, more than 650 volunteers are expected to participate. The catalyst for asking individuals to get involved in this initiative will be 18 Volunteer Sioux Falls Ambassadors. These community leaders will plan volunteer service projects for Sept. 26, inviting hundreds of their friends, family and co-workers to get involved. They will also be speaking at churches, community group meetings, and local businesses encouraging everyone to make a difference during Volunteer Sioux Falls by planning their own Volunteer Sioux Falls projects.
The public is invited to a Community Rally at 8:30 a.m. in the Macy's Wing of the Empire Mall on Sept. 26. Brief comments will be made by Mayor Dave Munson, and local volunteers will be presented with the President's Call To Service Award, an honor given to volunteers who have served more than 4,000 hours in their lifetime. After the rally, volunteer groups will mobilize throughout the Sioux Falls area.
This community-wide day of volunteering will take place on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009.
You can help by getting involved as a team leader. First, pick a project. You can select a volunteer project from a list on the Help!Line website (www.helplinecenter.org), or create a project of your own. Dial 211 for more ideas. Then, ask your friends, family or co-workers to get involved. Register your project with the Volunteer HELP!Line by dialing 211 and speaking with Sara. Tell her your project plans and receive Volunteer Sioux Falls T-shirts for everyone in your group. These are available only when supplies last.
